Frequently Asked Questions
The previous ten fiscal years plus the current fiscal year. The Federal fiscal year runs from October 1st through September 30th.
Active Grant – A financial assistance award (e.g., grant/cooperative agreement) whose project period effective date has already started in the current fiscal year or a prior fiscal year and has not yet expired. To explain further, a grant is counted as "active" when awarded by HRSA in the current Fiscal Year, or in a prior Fiscal Year if the grantee is still actively working on the grant. Grants may have a duration up to five years. Once a grant is closed out by HRSA, it is no longer counted as an active grant.
Awarded Grant – A financial assistance award (e.g., grant/cooperative agreement) whose federal funds have been obligated in a prior or current fiscal year and may be active, inactive, or closed. To explain further, a grant is counted as "awarded" only once, in the fiscal year in which that grant was awarded, even though grants may have a duration of up to five years.
Data Explorer, Fact Sheets and Data by Geography use the same data to display HRSA grants information but present it in slightly different ways. Data Explorer presents the most granular details whereas Data by Geography, Facts Sheets, and other tools and maps summarize the data. The funding totals will match across all tools. However, for a handful of awards that are jointly funded by two HRSA Bureaus, the total number of awards might display differently across these tools. For these grants, the Data Explorer will show them as two separate awards so users can see the funding details and attribute the correct amount of funding to the corresponding Bureau or Office. Data by Geography and the Fact Sheets count them as a single award.
Grants are generally awarded to awardees with unique UEI number, however, there are a few rare exceptions with H80 grants when two or more different offices within the same state that share the same UEI number were each awarded a grant. When this happens, the total number of awardees might differ. The Data Explorer shows these granular details, whereas Fact Sheets, Data by Geography and other tools and maps summarize the data to the UEI number which may cause the total number of awardees to differ. Funding totals will match across all tools.
