HRSA Special Initiatives

HRSA special initiatives support efforts to build community capacity to serve the public health needs of vulnerable populations.

Highlighted initiatives include:

  • Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) - HRSA provides grants and technical assistance to improve the health of communities in the Appalachian Region.
  • Border Health - HRSA provides grants and technical assistance to improve the health of communities in the domestic United States-Mexico Border Region. The area of land is within 100 kilometers (62.5 miles) north of the international border and almost 2000 miles across four border states in the United States (Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas).

    Note: Investments included in this Report were selected based upon the awardees' address locations being within 100 kilometers (62.5 miles) north of the international border between the United States and Mexico, using their geographic latitude and longitude coordinates.   • Delta Regional Authority (DRA) - HRSA provides grants and technical assistance to improve the health of communities in the Delta Region.
  • U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands (USAPI): HRSA provides grants and technical assistance to improve the health of communities in the U.S. Affiliated Pacific Islands (USAPI). The USAPI region includes the Freely Associated States of the Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau, and Republic of the Marshall Islands and the U.S. territories of American Samoa, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam. HRSA’s report highlights the agency’s financial investments within the USAPI as part of a more comprehensive report that is published federal government-wide.
