Project Name: Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility (U2W)

Applicant Title: STATE OF ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

Abstract Text: The purpose of the Alaska Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Program (Alaska Flex Program) is to support Alaska’s critical access hospitals (CAHs) to demonstrate and improve quality of care, stabilize finances, maintain services, adjust to meet changing community needs, and ensure patient care is integrated throughout the rural health care delivery system. The Alaska Flex Program will achieve these goals by providing training, technical assistance, and resources to CAHs to support quality and innovation in the delivery of healthcare services including preventative, ambulatory, pre-hospital, emergent, and inpatient care. We will use rural relevant data to identify needs and drive quality improvement efforts with a focus on supporting Medicare Beneficiary Quality Improvement Project data submission and tracking for improvement. Our vision is that the Alaska Flex Program supports improved population health outcomes, enhances patient and family experience, enhances workforce experience, results in improved financial stability, and improves health equity for Alaska’s rural and frontier populations.
