Needs to be addressed: There are high rates of maternal mental illness and perinatal drug use and abuse in Montana. This project aims to increase access for providers to screen, assess, treat, and refer mothers for improved access to care. Proposed Services: The goal of the Montana Perinatal Behavioral Health Initiative is to expand Montana health care providersā capacity to screen, assess, treat, and refer perinatal people for maternal mental health and substance use disorders through integrated behavioral health services and improved care coordination support services in prenatal care clinics, teleconsultation services, and culturally responsive training activities. Objective 1: During the five-year project period, the Montana Perinatal Behavioral Health Initiative will increase the number of providers using the program for real-time psychiatric consultations through the PRISM line by 15% per year. Culturally responsive, equitable, and respectful care practices will be interwoven into the PRISM line consultations. This objective will be measured by project records, number of PRISM line consultations, external evaluation results, and the number of providers trained in and incorporating DEI practices. Objective 2: During the five-year project period, the Montana Perinatal Behavioral Health Initiative will increase the number of communities with access to care coordination services through the Meadowlark InitiativeĀ® by providing access to the model in all 26 communities with a delivering hospital and in all seven (7) Indian Reservations. Culturally responsive, equitable, and respectful practices will be incorporated into the activities required for implementing Meadowlark in each community. This objective will be measured by project records, number of communities in which Meadowlark is launched, external evaluation results, and the number and type of practices which incorporate DEI. Objective 3: During the five-year project period, the Montana Perinatal Behavioral Health Initiative will implement at least five (5) SBIRT trainings and eight (8) PRISM Presents trainings annually for the purpose of training providers in maternal mental health and substance use disorders, including screening, assessment, treatment, and follow-up recovery support services. All trainings will include components for culturally responsive, equitable, and respectful practices. This objective will be measured by project records, training records, external evaluation results, and documentation of DEI components. Population group to be served: The project proposed herein will be aimed at health care providers in rural and medically underserved areas throughout the state, including those in Tribal communities. By engaging with providers in these target areas, we will expand access to behavioral health and SUD screening and treatment for pregnant and postpartum persons across the state. The types of health care providers to be targeted will include all those who serve a role in the physical and mental health of perinatal patients (e.g., family practitioners, obstetrics, midwives).
