Abstract Text: Project Title: Idaho EMS for Children State Partnership Grant Applicant Organization Name: Idaho Department of Health & Welfare, EMS Bureau Address: 2224 E Old Penitentiary Ave, Boise, ID 83712 Project Director Name: Melissa Ball Contact Phone Numbers: xxx-xxx-xxxx Email: xxxxxxxxxxxx@xxx.xxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxx@xxx.xxxxx Website: www.tse.idaho.gov Problem: Delivering pediatric emergency care in Idaho is challenging due the large land mass, rural and mountainous landscape with a majority of care being provided by critical access hospitals and volunteer EMS providers. The Idaho EMSC program has made significant improvements in the last few years but there is more work that needs to be done to ensure all emergency departments and prehospital EMS agencies are prepared to care for children. Using data collected from recent assessments, the program has been able to identify and make a plan to address the gaps in our state system. Goals and Objectives: The Idaho EMS for Children program will work to achieve the following goals. 1) Expand the uptake of Pediatric Readiness in Emergency Departments 2) Improve Pediatric Readiness in EMS Systems 3) Increase pediatric disaster readiness in hospital EDs and prehospital EMS agencies 4) Prioritize and advance family partnership and leadership in efforts to improve EMSC systems of care. Methodology: Conduction of statewide assessments will be performed to identify progress/status of each identified goal. Resources will be provided by the national EMSC Data Center and EMSC staff will coordinate data collection and analysis. Findings will be distributed to key stakeholders via meetings, website and shared electronically. Resources will be provided to hospitals and EMS agencies to encourage participation in the Pediatric Readiness Recognition Programs and increase their Pediatric Readiness scores. The state EMSC Advisory Board, EMSC committees, EMSC project team, FAN representative and other EMSC coalition members will continue to educate and advocate for achievement of the programs goals. Coordination: The EMSC Program has and will continue to develop collaborations with other state programs such as: The Maternal Child Health Programs, the Time Sensitive Emergency Program, the EMS Physician Commission, the EMS Advisory Committee, the Idaho Preparedness Program and the Idaho Bureau of Rural Health. In addition, the program will continue to partner with the national EMSC collaborative, the EMSC Data Center and the NASEMSO PEC Council. Evaluation: The EMSC Program uses the National Pediatric Readiness Assessment and the EMS Annual survey as an evaluation tool to assess progress on performance measure goals and program activities. The EMSC Advisory Board will continue to provide leadership, guidance and evaluation during this grant and will critically review and evaluate data obtained through these assessments. Annotation: The main purpose of this project is to expand and improve emergency medical services for all of Idaho's ill and injured children especially in areas that are rural, tribal and underserved by reaching the required goals. The efforts of the Idaho EMSC program in years past have improved the quality of emergency medical and trauma services for children.
