GOALS and OBJECTIVES: The goals of Delaware EMSC are to ensure continuous improvement of EMSC in Delaware, and to integrate EMSC priorities into the state EMS System. The major objectives to be accomplished by the end of 2027 are: • The Delaware EMSC will work with EMS agencies to identify an agency POC to coordinate pediatric emergency care initiatives. This individual would be the lead on pediatric QA/QI and would make recommendations for upcoming protocol changes, training initiatives and public outreach through the EMSC Advisory Committee. • The Delaware EMSC will work with EMS agencies to promote annual skills verification of pediatric specific equipment. • The Delaware EMSC in conjunction with the Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinators (PECC’s) and Advisory Committee will create a pediatric EMS agency recognition program that will include the above objectives. METHODOLOGY: The primary methodology for achieving our goals and objectives is needs assessments. Through a process of orientation to the importance of the assessment tool, support for maintenance of existing progress, and facilitation of additional progress, Delaware will meet the benchmarks of the performance measures. The EMSC program will work with NEDARC and will conduct the first needs assessment during the 2023-2024 EMSC grant project period and annually from then on. The EMSC Program Manager will work with the Project Director/State Trauma System Manager and EMSC Standards/Quality Committee to sustain and strengthen the Pediatric Emergency Care Facility Program and our Statewide Pediatric System as well as support the implementation of the Pediatric EMS Agency Recognition Program. COORDINATION: The EMSC program along with the EMS PECC’s and the EMSC Advisory Committee will coordinate with the EMS agencies and hospitals, State Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics, Nemours Hospital for Children, the State Fire Prevention Commission, Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Office of Preparedness, and Delaware Healthcare Association to meet our goals and objectives. EVALUATION: Increased response rate and compliance as measured in the needs assessment and compared to previous assessments will be a main means of evaluation of the EMSC program. ANNOTATION: The purpose of the project is to improve emergency health care for children in our state. The focus is on expanding pediatric readiness in emergency departments, improving pediatric readiness in EMS by establishing a standardized pediatric readiness recognition program, increasing pediatric disaster readiness in hospital EDs and EMS agencies and integrating the patient and family perspective into Delaware’s efforts with the Family Advisory Network (FAN) representative.
