Project Name: EMSC Partnership Grants (H33)
Applicant Title: HEALTH SERVICES, WISCONSIN DEPARTMENT OF
Abstract Text: Wisconsin Department of Health Services 1 West Wilson Street Madison, WI 53703 Jessica Link Reeve, Project Director xxx-xxx-xxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx@xxx.xxxxxxxxx Grant program funds requested: $205,000 yearly The proposed project for the Wisconsin Emergency Medical Services for Children (WI EMSC) Program will expand the capacity and improve the quality of pediatric emergency care across pre-hospital and hospital-based settings in Wisconsin. Through collaboration, advocacy, consultation, and partnership WI EMSC will develop and expand pediatric readiness in hospital emergency departments (EDs) and prehospital Emergency Medical Services (EMS) systems, increase pediatric disaster readiness in EDs and EMS, and prioritize family partnership and leadership to equitably improve EMSC across Wisconsin. Throughout the funding period, WI EMSC will carry out the following services: - Facilitate a state EMSC Advisory Committee that meets quarterly, with at least four of the eight core members having experience providing health care primarily in underserved communities. - Maintain one full-time State Partnership Program Manager dedicated solely to the EMSC State Partnership Program. The individual will have prior experience working to address the emergency care needs of children statewide, particularly in underserved communities. - Collect and analyze statewide pediatric emergency medical data on a yearly basis and identify gaps and trends, focusing on disparities among underserved communities. - Increase the proportion of Wisconsin EDs that have participated in a standardized pediatric readiness recognition program, have a designated Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator (PECC), and weigh and record children’s weight in kilograms. - Increase the proportion of Wisconsin prehospital EMS agencies who have a standardized pediatric readiness recognition program, have a designated PECC, and have a process for pediatric skills-check on the use of pediatric equipment. - Increase the proportion of Wisconsin EDs and prehospital EMS agencies that have disaster plans that address the needs of children. - Designate a Family Advisory Network (FAN) representative and at least one additional family representative to be on the Advisory Committee to ensure family, patient, and underserved community perspectives are integrated into all programmatic efforts. - Collect and report budget data and national performance measure data to HRSA. Ensuring that children in Wisconsin have access to quality emergency care, regardless of their race, ethnicity, disability status, geographic location, or any other demographic factor is the primary health care goal of the Wisconsin EMSC program. Because of this, performance measures which have a direct impact on pre-hospital and hospital emergency care are most likely to improve health care for the pediatric population in Wisconsin. The services included in the proposed project will continue to improve pre-hospital and hospital emergency care for children in Wisconsin and reduce morbidity and mortality throughout our state.
