Project Name: Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending - Construction (CE1)

Applicant Title: CHIRICAHUA COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS INC

Abstract Text: Address: 1205 F Avenue Douglas, AZ 85607 Project Director Name: Jonathan Melk MD FAAP Contact Phone Numbers: xxx-xxx-xxxx Email Address: xxxxxx@xxxxx.xxx Website Address: https://cchci.org/ Program Funds Requested: $627,966 Chiricahua Community Health Centers, Inc. (CCHCI) provides primary care to the diverse communities and special populations of rural Cochise County, Arizona as the region’s only Federally Qualified Health Center. No patient is turned away based on ability to pay. CCHCI has grown dramatically in both size and complexity in recent years. Consequently, CCHCI no longer has an adequate space with the technology needed for the initial/ongoing training necessary to efficiently prepare our local workforce. Therefore, CCHCI is requesting support to renovate a currently unusable portion of a historic building (already owned by CCHCI) located in a blighted section of Bisbee, Arizona into a state-of-the-art health worker training center to prepare locally employed healthcare workers to address and solve rural healthcare challenges to the benefit of all communities and populations of Cochise County. The proposed state-of-the-art training center is a historic (1905) brick facility. CCHCI purchased this deteriorating building in 2017 and renovated 1200 square feet into a now thriving community pharmacy. The remaining 2300 square feet remain unusable, but with new funds will be transformed into a modern, multi-use, training and meeting space. Architectural and engineering plans are ‘shelf ready’; technology and furniture plans are also already completed; and construction can begin later this fall 2022.
